                              Industry Profile

  • Phosphorous in elemental form and in many products is derived from deposits of Phosphate Rock in the mineral form fluorapatite: Ca10(PO)6F2
  • Major products of Phosphate Industry are : Phosphorous , Phosphoric Acid, Ammonium Phosphate , Calcium Phosphate, Nitro Phosphate, Sodium Phosphate, Organic Phosphate
  • The phosphate Industry in India is mainly Fertilizer Production and so is developing similar to Nitrogen Industry
  • High grade rock Phosphate from Jhamarkotra is used for super phosphate
  • The Rock Phosphate from Jhabua and Chattarpur is used for the production of  elemental prosperous and in fertilizer mixtures
  • Mussoorie rock Phosphate is used for direct application
  • Usual economic balance is between shipping large tonnage of raw materials and the cost of electric power
  • Phosporic acid mainly is used in India for the production of fertilizers, Soaps, detergents & Food Chemicals
  • Wet process and Electric furnace processes are used for the production of Phosphoric Acid
  • Large tonnage of low-grade calcium phosphates are made as Fertilizer
  • Ammonium Phosphate is used for chemical fertilizers. Other uses are in fire-retardants, nutrient yeast culture , ammoniated dentrifices
  • Nitro phosphates are mixtures of ammonium nitrate and various phosphates
  • The principle use of alkali phosphates in the USA has been in detergents formulations - but ecological consideration is against it . Phosphates are still used in metal cleaning, boiler water treatment, textile Industry and foodstuffs
  • Many other compounds of phosphorus are used. The acid is used in soft drinks for its pleasant taste when sweetened and its nutritive value. Other food applications include the use of disodium phosphate in processed cheese; and phosphates in baking powder, flameproofing, and the treatment of boiler water in steam plants
  • Many consider that 2012 will be a year that potash and phosphate producers can reflect the sector’s strong growth potential. But despite strong long-term fundamentals in the fertilizer sector, the uncertainties hanging over 2012 appear unlikely to offer a quick turn around in the value of potash and phosphate prices or company values.
